Easter Concert. Ensemble Orthodox Singers

Vocal ensemble Orthodox Singers is known as Orthodox church music introducer and promoter both in Estonia and abroad. It was founded in 1989 by its artistic director and conductor Valery Petrov. The ensemble consists of professional musicians who are proficient in the performance practice styles of various epochs. It’s manner of performance is characterized by profound attention to every word in a sacred text, flawless vocal production, a carefully thought out dynamic plan, and an extraordinary sense of style.

Orthodox Singers has especially focused on early Orthodox chant, which is rarely heard in concert performances. Their repertoire also includes great works of Russian sacred choral literature. In the last several years, the ensemble’s repertoire has also come to include the music of contemporary Orthodox composers, among them Sir John Tavener, Valery Kalistratov, and Arvo Pärt, as well as music of other Estonian composers such as Cyrillus Kreek and Veljo Tormis.

The ensemble has participated in several festivals, including Stratford-upon-Avon Festival, Nottingham Festival, Chelsea Festival (London), J.S. Bach Festival (New York, USA) and Moscow Easter Festival. Orthodox Singers has received awards at several international competitions
