Noël Christmas with French Baroque: Charpentier’s “Midnight mass for Christmas” . The Estonian Baroque Orchestra

The Estonian Baroque Orchestra invites you to a Christmas concert – folk-song melodies and country-dance rhythms, courtly elegance and the majesty of the Sun King, Louis XIV!

December 13, 2025 at 7 pm at the Niguliste Museum Estonian Baroque Orchestra and vocal soloists Kapellmeister Andrew Lawrence-King The program features Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s beloved Midnight Mass for Christmas that sets the familiar words to traditional Noëls – popular French Christmas carols of his time. Charpentier’s In Nativitatem will also be performed that tells the Christmas story of the Angel and the Shepherds. Their song to the Child at Bethlehem is another Charpentier hit-tune, a minuet rhythm lullaby.
In addition instrumental Noëls by Jean Francois D’Andrieu, organist of the Chapelle Royale at Versailles (1757), and by his successor at the Royal Chapel, Louis-Claude D’Aquin (1759) will be performed.
Vocal soloists led by Lodewijk van der Ree: Yena Choi (soprano, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir) Mirell Jakobson (soprano, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir) Danila Frantou (countertenor, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir) Lodewijk van der Ree (tenor) Taniel Kirikal (bass)

Tickets 20/15€ at Fienta and on site The concert is supported by the Ministry of Culture.
